Information, not a contract

How licenses work

What happens from a producer's request to the end of a license on Nuva — the hold and the charge, approval, the term, the reference pack, refunds and revocation. The numbers on this page are Nuva's current settings.

What this page is

Information, not a contract

This page explains how licensing on Nuva works, in plain words. Nuva's team wrote it as information: it is not a contract, nobody accepts it, and it doesn't change any license.

What binds a producer is the license record — the LIC code with its exact scope and price — and the four documents accepted with the request: the Usage Scope, the Producer Agreement, the Prohibited Use Policy and the Refund & Cancellation Policy. What binds a talent is the Talent Agreement and, while it is on, the Auto-Casting authorization. Where this page and those texts differ, those texts apply.

Sending a request

The producer chooses the usage type, the add-ons, the quantity and any sensitive scenario, names the production (and the end client for advertising), describes the intended use in a production brief and ticks one box to accept the four documents.

If the request waits for the talent's approval (and Nuva's review, for a sensitive one), the card is then authorized for the price — a hold, not a charge — within 60 minutes, and the request reaches Nuva or the talent only once the card is held; if it isn't held in time, the request closes without being sent. A request Auto-Casting approves at once has no hold: it is paid right away (see Approval and payment).

A request with a sensitive scenario goes to Nuva for review first, usually within 24 hours. Nuva's review is not the talent's consent. The talent then has 24 hours to approve, ask for changes or decline — less if the card hold would end sooner.

If the request is declined, withdrawn, closed or expires, or if the talent asks for changes, the hold is released and nothing is charged. An updated request needs a new hold. With a debit card, the bank may set the amount aside in the account until the hold is released.

Approval and payment

Every license is approved by the talent — request by request, or in advance through Auto-Casting, which approves a standard request within the talent's license types, add-ons and prices at once, without review by the talent or by Nuva. Auto-Casting never approves a request that names a sensitive scenario, or a request the producer revised. The license record shows which way it was approved.

The card is charged when the request is approved. A request approved through Auto-Casting is paid right away — by card in US dollars or Thai baht, or by PromptPay in Thai baht — within 24 hours, or the approval lapses. If a charge on approval doesn't go through, the producer has 7 days to pay on the payment page, or the approval lapses.

The price is in US dollars, with no VAT or other fee added, and is fixed when the request is sent. A Thai baht amount is fixed at Nuva's exchange rate when the card is held, or when Auto-Casting approves the request. The license starts when the payment is received.

In exceptional cases Nuva may cancel an approved license: before payment, it closes; after payment, it is revoked, Nuva decides the amount refunded, and the take-down rules below apply.

The term: creation window and use

A license starts at activation, when the payment is received. From then on, the creation window is the time to make new material with the likeness, and the use period is how long the finished work may be used. Both depend on the license type:

  • Film / Series / Short drama / MV

    Unit
One titled production. A series counts as one season.
    Creation window
    12 months
    Use of the finished work
For the life of the production
  • TVC / Advertising / Commercial

    Unit
One campaign for one named end client.
    Creation window
    24 months
    Use of the finished work
    24 months from activation
  • E-commerce / Fashion editorial

    Unit
One pack covers up to 50 published images. Unused quota expires with the term.
    Creation window
    24 months
    Use of the finished work
    24 months from activation
  • Games / Animation / Virtual character

    Unit
One project, including patches and DLC. A sequel needs a new license.
    Creation window
    24 months
    Use of the finished work
For the life of the project

Add-ons follow the main license's start and end dates. They never extend or renew it.

License types and units

Each license type is bought in its own unit, and the quantity is the number of units. Advertising names one end client; e-commerce counts packs of up to 50 published images. What each type covers — and what it doesn't — is set out in the Usage Scope.

  • Film / Series / Short drama / MV

Films, series, short dramas and music videos — including AI-generated vertical dramas.

  • TVC / Advertising / Commercial

TV commercials, online video and social advertising for one campaign by one named brand.

  • E-commerce / Fashion editorial

Product imagery, lookbooks and fashion editorial for online stores and marketplaces.

  • Games / Animation / Virtual character

Playable characters, cinematics, animated series and virtual characters.

Add-ons

Every license type can add Print & OOH, Product packaging and Merchandise. Each add-on is priced by the talent as a multiple of the license fee and applies only when the license record includes it.

An add-on adds ways to use the likeness for the same production, campaign, image pack or project. It never adds another production, client, product or brand. The details for each license type are in the Usage Scope.

The reference pack

The reference pack holds one JPEG for each of the talent's photos that passed the check, so the count varies by talent. It is made for the license alone and delivered once the payment is received.

Each pack version can be downloaded 5 times, and every download is logged. If the talent adds photos while the creation window is open, the producer is told and gets an updated pack version with its own downloads.

At the end of the creation window, every copy of every pack version must be deleted — the producer's, the contractors' and the end client's — and the deletion confirmed on Nuva. Nuva sends reminders. Work already made stays licensed.

Sensitive scenarios

The sensitive scenarios a license may name are the five Sensitive Scene categories of the Usage Scope:

  1. Boys’ Love (BL) / Girls’ Love (GL)
  2. Intimate Scenes
  3. Sexual Appearance (Non-Nude)
  4. Death / Dying
  5. Villain / Morally Negative Role

A sensitive scenario is licensed only when the license record names it: it was named in the request, passed Nuva's review and was explicitly approved by the talent. Auto-Casting never approves one.

Use with AI tools

The reference pack may be used as reference input in AI tools to create material for the licensed production. Switch training settings off wherever the tool allows it.

No license allows training or fine-tuning a model on the likeness, sublicensing or reselling the files, using the talent's legal name, or implying the talent's personal endorsement. The Prohibited Use Policy lists what is never allowed.

Contractors and end clients

The producer's contractors on the production and the named end client may use the files for the licensed production only, under the same license. Printers and manufacturers working for the licensee may use them for that job only.

Refunds

Refunds follow Nuva's Refund & Cancellation Policy, accepted with the request. To ask for a refund, write to cs@nuva-license.com.

Revocation and take-down

Nuva may revoke a license that is breached. Both parties receive a notice, and the licensee has 7 days to take the work down.

To ask for a review, use “Dispute this revocation” on the license page. The take-down still applies while Nuva reviews it. A license can also end when an impersonation is confirmed, when the payment is reversed, or when Nuva cancels it.

If an account closes

If the producer or the talent closes their account, a license already paid for stays valid to the end of its term, and the licensee's duties still apply — including deleting the reference pack at the end of the creation window.

License records

The license record is the source of truth for what was agreed. It names the version of each document accepted with the request, with each acceptance, and whether the talent approved it directly or through Auto-Casting. Anyone can check that a LIC code is genuine and active on the Verify page.
